Letter from Jim Simpson - We need assurances over the Pavilion Gardens consultation

Thousands of local people and visitors alike treasure the Pavilion Gardens Cafe in Brighton (Letters, October 14).

There is no leisure, heritage or economic case for changing it while Lottery funds can be spent improving the inside fabric of the Dome complex over and above the substantial re-shaping the last round of Lottery funding paid for.

As a user and performer at the Dome, I am familiar with the very messy and labyrinthine backstage facilities, which clearly need work in order to improve the venue.

The gardens are clearly not broken and don’t need fixing so it seems high time the Dome management gave a public assurance that the cafe and public amenity of the gardens will be protected.

We all hope Andrew Comben can give such an assurance from his perspective as the chief executive.
