Brighton Society - Brighton Dome and the Royal Pavilion to be transformed
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE PAVILION GARDEN? THERE IS TALK OF MAKING IT MORE EXCITING. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WILL THE MORE EXCITING GARDEN INCLUDE THE MUCH LOVED PAVILION GARDEN CAFE?
'Back in the ’70s a decision was made to restore, as far as was practical, the Pavilion gardens to their original plan and planting? To achieve this it was necessary to wrest the responsibility for the garden from the parks department, which had introduced swathes of psychedelic sick (Busy Lizzie) near the North Gate. Responsibility for the garden was then given to the Director of the Royal Pavilion.'
'So what is meant by making the gardens “more attractive”? Removing the Pavilion Garden cafe would not not make it more attractive. Who will decide on what is “more attractive”? The first thing to do should be to remove the floppy banners, hanging like washing on a line, outside the Pavilion and the Museum.'
